At STAR, a non-profit organization serving individuals of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, members provide a hands-on horticulture program for clients, along with planting and maintaining a vegetable garden. Produce from the garden is distributed to various group homes in the Norwalk area.

The Christmas Fair and May Plant Sale fundraising projects allow the club to award scholarships to Norwalk students who are planning college studies in areas related to horticulture. In 2025, the club gave $3000 in scholarships to Norwalk students.

Civic Projects

Members enjoy a special project, as they arrange Valentine’s Day bouquets for a local nursing home.

The Norwalk Garden Club maintains two gardens at the entrance of the Lower Fairfield Center, a congregate living facility for both intellectually and physically challenged adults. Regular weeding, deadheading and pruning allow residents and guests accessibility to a memorial garden and pathways.

Every year, the staff at the center plant a garden at the entrance of each residential unit that is judged by the garden club. Not only is there a “Best in Show” winner, but each garden receives a certificate for creativity or originality.
